- A PIANO PARENT
“Last year I heard about Play With Passion and although I was initially slightly apprehensive about learning remotely, I’d highly recommend Amanda and her style of teaching to anyone keen to begin or improve their piano skills.”
- ADULT LEARNER
“Amanda is an excellent teacher. She is patient, positive and encouraging. Amanda provides excellent written feedback and next steps by email after the lesson so there is always a full half hour lesson. I am very positive about learning with an online tutor. There have been no problems with the technology and no rushing around to get to a lesson on time. I very much recommend learning piano as an adult with Amanda.”
- ADULT LEARNER
“Amanda has really taken the time to meet the needs of all of our three children in their piano journeys; challenging, supporting and engaging them fully. Their ability, confidence and motivation to play has come on so much since starting with Amanda.”
- PIANO PARENT
“I was a bit dubious about online learning for my children, I thought ‘surely they need to be physically present to learn?!’ but I needn’t have worried. Amanda is very knowledgeable and a great teacher, and you can tell she’s a lovely person inside too. I would highly recommend learning piano with Amanda, my kids really enjoy their lessons.”

FAQs
Absolutely not! One of the best things about piano is that there’s no age limit to getting started.
In fact, many of my adult learners are complete beginners who’ve always wanted to give it a go - and now they are!
Learning as an adult comes with its own strengths:
-
You know your goals
-
You’re motivated by your own curiosity
-
You can bring years of musical appreciation with you
My adult students learn at their own pace, with a relaxed, supportive approach that fits into busy lives.
-
Yes, absolutely!
Even if you’ve taught yourself a lot, lessons can help you:
-
Fill in any gaps in technique or theory
-
Break through plateaus and keep progressing
-
Get personalised guidance and support
-
Build confidence in your playing
-
Explore new styles and repertoire
-
Absolutely, my online lessons are just as effective as in-person ones. With almost 6 years of online teaching experience, I have found some additional benefits as well:
-
Piano lessons on your own piano or keyboard
-
No commuting to/from lessons
-
Learners can set up/pack up before and after lessons
-
Parents feel more involved with their child's learning journey and can subtly listen into lessons without added pressure
-
Whether you have had traditional face-to-face piano lessons in the past, or are new to learning, it makes complete sense why you may have doubts when it comes to learning piano online. When you really think about the concept, it does sound rather unusual!
With 6 years of experience in online lessons, I've had the opportunity to work with a wide range of learners of all ages with great success.
Online lessons are very similar to face-to-face lessons and I make an effort to adapt my lessons to suit each individual's learning style, just as I did in my years as a face-to-face teacher. There are of course a few differences, like the fact myself and the learner aren't in the same room- I make up for all of these little differences through camera position/angle and the way I demonstrate and introduce new concepts to create a really natural feeling for all.
Yes, I do! I have helped students through exams from Pre Grade through to Grade 8 and I love doing so. In my studio, exams are optional and I support whichever decision a learner chooses.
After spending time revamping the way I approach piano exams, and the exams I offer my students, I make sure the exam preparation process is as accessible and fun as possible
Whether a learner decides to pursue formal exams or not, I make sure they all receive a thorough music education, covering key learning concepts and milestones associated with each exam level.
All lessons cancelled with sufficient notice* are banked and can be scheduled for a later date
When I have cancellations or spaces in my timetable, I offer these slots to anyone with banked lessons. I try to schedule these sessions as quickly as possible but, if it is a particularly busy time for a learner, I'm happy to wait a little longer.
To make this process easier, it's always really helpful to have an up-to-date availability note of each learner's general availability
*lessons cancelled before 10pm the night before the affected lesson can be banked for a later date. Lessons cancelled after that cut-off time will still be charged.
